Thanks to a grant from One Tree Planted, Coarsegold RCD and North Fork Elementary School held the first annual Conservation Day at Calvin Crest Camp and Conference Center. This camp has seen devastating tree mortality due to the bark beetle and Railroad fire of 2017.

Students at North Fork Elementary have been attending this camp for decades and jumped at the idea of working with CRCD to host this rehabilitation field trip. Students from Mrs. Cottington’s 4th grade and Mr. Moon’s 5th grade classes have been discussing wildfire and post fire rehabilitation this week using curriculum supplied by One Tree Planted.

Today, 45 dedicated students arrived bright and early and planted nearly 300 Ponderosa Pines. Students will also receive a workbook and shirt from One Tree Planted, and a packet of milkweed seeds from The Xerces Society to start their own pollinator garden this fall. What a great field trip. We are hoping to make this Conservation Day an annual event. Thanks to all the participants!
